Unlocking fuel cell conductivity

Feb. 27, 2013 ? Work on a high-conductivity material demonstrates the role of oxygen ions in enhancing their capabilities.

Yttria stabilized zirconia, also known as YSZ, is a material of great interest because of its relatively high oxygen-ion based conductivity. In particular, it finds applications in electrochemical devices, such as solid oxide fuel cells and oxygen sensors. In a study published in EPJ B, Kia Ngai, from the University of Pisa in Italy, and colleagues from the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain, devised a model of the oxygen-ion dynamics that contribute to the conductivity of YSZ.

The problem is that fuel cells currently operate above 700 ?C, which strongly limits their use. Understanding oxygen-ion diffusion is key to helping lower operating temperature down to room temperature. Previous attempts to do so were done with the so-called coupling model (CM), describing simple physical concepts related to ion-ion interaction. This helped uncover the importance of ion-ion correlation in limiting long-range ion mobility, and thus conductivity.

The trouble is that experiments show that ionic conductivity in YSZ requires an activation energy that is much higher than that supplied by computer simulations describing independent ion hopping. Relying on the CM model, the authors first established a quantitative description of the ion dynamics in YSZ. Then they compared the predictions of the CM with experimental results and with simulations, particularly those of nanometric-scale thin films, published in the last ten years.

Thus, in their model, they established the connection between the level of the energy barrier for independent ion-hopping simulations and the level of activation energy measured experimentally for long-range movement of oxygen ions. In addition, they attributed an increase of the conductivity in nanometers-thick YSZ films to a decrease in the ion-ion correlations. This model could also be used to study the conductivity relaxation of so-called molten, glassy and crystalline ionic conductors and ambient temperature ionic liquids.

How the whale got its teeth

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Whales are mammals, but they don't look like the mammals living around us, as they have a triangular fluke for tail, no hind legs and no body hair. And inside their mouths, their teeth are unfamiliar too ? being much simpler and 'peg like'. A multidisciplinary team of researchers have now married together the fossil record and the embryonic development process to investigate how the whale got its teeth.

Most mammals have four kinds of teeth, each shaped for specific tasks. In most mammals there are wedge-shaped incisors, a pointy canine, and premolars and molars with bumps and valleys that fit together like a mortar and pestle when you chew. Not all whales have teeth, but those that do, such as killer whales, have rows of simple peg like teeth, each one looking the same as the next. Whales use this spiked row of teeth to grab prey, but unlike other mammals, whales do not chew. In a new study published today in the open access journal PeerJ, Brooke Armfield and colleagues investigated the developmental processes that cause the teeth of dolphins, whales' smaller cousins, to be different, and tracked the evolutionary progression of their unique dentition across the fossil record.

Whales evolved from land mammals and so Armfield and co-workers first went to the fossil record to trace when and how whales evolved their simple teeth. The fossil record shows that, 48 million years ago, whales had the same four kinds of teeth just like most other mammals. Gradually, the teeth of whales became simpler and acquired their characteristic peg-like appearance around 30 million years ago, well after the time that they had acquired an array of adaptations for living in the water.

Next, Armfield and her colleagues explored just how teeth are shaped during development. Specific proteins in the embryo cause developing teeth to grow into certain shapes. Armfield and colleagues zeroed in on two proteins, BMP4 (Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4) and FGF8 (Fibroblast Growth Factor 8). BMP4 expression leads to teeth developing into simple prongs, and this occurs near the tip of the jaws, where the incisors form. Prior to teeth forming in the embryo, FGF8 expression in the back of the jaw leads to development of molar teeth with their complex hills and valleys in mice and other mammals.

Armfield and her co-workers studied FGF8 and BMP4 in pig embryos, relatives of whales and dolphins. Pigs have the four typical types of teeth, and, sure enough, the two proteins are distributed in the same way as they are in other mammals, showing that whales' ancestors likely had this distribution of gene expression too. Next, the authors moved on to examine dolphin embryos. Here, the pattern was different: FGF8 is present in the back part of the jaw, but BMP4 is present along the entire length of the jaw, including where FGF8 is found. The authors hypothesize that the overlapping presence of BMP4 in these new areas causes the teeth all along the jaw to be simple in shape, like incisors, and to be similar to each other. Interestingly, other researchers had shown that in mouse embryos in which BMP4 is experimentally introduced in the back of the jaw, the back teeth also take on this simplified appearance.

"It is exciting to identify a molecular change that occurred in nature and that so dramatically influenced the way in which a mammal can thrive in the ocean and to then trace the evolution of that change in the fossil record," says Armfield. "The simple shift in the location of proteins that influence tooth shape found in whales may help us to better understand how mammals evolved their complex tooth in the first place."

Says co-author Thewissen: "This shows that major changes to the design of an animal can result from small changes in early development, by simply shifting the region where an already existing protein occurs. It's a beautiful, detailed example of a small developmental change having a big effect in evolution."

Nation's West, Midwest In Path Of Massive Winter Storm

As many as 30 million people living from Oklahoma to the Ohio Valley are in the path of a storm moving east out of California that could dump several inches of snow in some areas and freezing rain and sleet elsewhere in the next few days.

According to the Weather Channel, the storm is caused by an "upper-level dip in the jet stream," on Wednesday.

Snow will also intensify and spread east in the Plains and Midwest Wednesday into Thursday. By that point, conditions will become favorable for a zone of freezing rain and sleet from Oklahoma and Kansas to the Ohio Valley and parts of the East.

CNN reports that "the biggest threat of heavy snow lies in parts of Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri, with the possibility of whiteout conditions in some places."

CNN says Chicago could get 4 inches of snow, St. Louis 2 inches, while New Orleans could get 2 to 6 inches of rain.

The Passing of a Dharma Friend ? Ah! Dharma reflections based on ...

By Clemma Dawsen

I?m here to talk to you on behalf of our tiny sangha in rural Vermont and how

together we experienced the teachings of Anyen Rinpoche in a very immediate way as

we shared in the dying of one of our members. It?s our hope that reading this will give

you an idea of how amazing and beautiful and possible it is to die with confidence. We

should all aspire to be surrounded by trusted dharma friends. One of life?s greatest gifts

is to be a dharma friend; if you are asked to be one you should have no doubt as to

your good fortune. As the hours and days passed leading up to Bob?s death, tangible

benefits of each of our particular practices arose spontaneously and we came to a

greater understanding of how important the sangha truly is. No matter how large or

small, no matter the level of expertise of its members, the sangha holds things together.

?

I dedicate the merit of writing this story to Bob?s wife, Sally, who by selflessly

opening her heart as her beloved Bob was dying offered each of us the opportunity

to accrue astoundingly good karma and gain the depth of understanding that can

only come from experience. May she be strengthened and blessed with clear vision

for her future. It?s her wish and ours that continuous benefit radiate in ever widening

circles from our sangha to yours and beyond. On behalf of our sangha, I offer deepest

gratitude to Anyen Rinpoche for first accepting Bob and Sally?s invitation to come to

Vermont, and for supporting us from afar as he traveled to Bodhgaya at the time of

Bob?s passing; and to Ven. Konchog Norbu who committed to Sally in October that he

would return to Vermont to be with Bob in his final days and made good on his promise.

His gentle presence and pure honesty gave us all room to simply be.

?

As one friend wrote from Colorado upon Bob?s passing, ??I am so deeply touched

to see Rinpoche?s vision? for sangha to come together and transform the experience of death-

- happen for Bob and Sally. We may not have all the skills yet, but the compassion and loving

motivation to help is flowing from your hearts. Thank you all so much. Those of you who have

been with Bob and Sally this past week wrote such beautiful poetry about your experience?it

seemed quite magical. You were obviously surrounded with Buddha?s blessings. And Bob gave

us a gift from his heart as well. His practice over the years supported him even when his mental

faculties could not??

?

Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer?s disease in 2010. By last fall he was failing

fast and yet still eagerly wished to be with Rinpoche and attend Level I Phowa training

in Manchester. Although he did not express it in words, it seems Bob had chosen to

prepare for death. Sally, ever devoted, set out purposefully to see him through.

At the retreat Bob?s open-hearted acceptance of the compassion we showed

toward him opened our hearts to receive his in return. It works that way. Those of us

who knew him, as well as those who traveled from all over the U.S. and Canada to

attend the training were blessed by his company. While he struggled to remember

names and faces, directions and schedules, Bob somehow remained more present

than seemed possible, more present at times than those of us consciously aiming to be.

Whenever I was with him, I understood bodhichitta in a way I never had before.

On the final day of the retreat, each of us came quietly forward with bowed heads

and folded hands to receive Rinpoche?s blessing. When it came time for Bob to step

up, he raised his head and approached Rinpoche with a determined step and an open

smile. Before Rinpoche could extend his colorfully wrapped bamboo staff to bless Bob

with a touch or a tap, Bob reached out with both hands, seized hold of the staff and held

fast. The long moment that followed enveloped us all as we were suspended in pure

dharma. It was as if Rinpoche and Bob formed the center of a great lotus while the rest

of us became in turn its many petals, fanned out in translucent light that could not be

contained by mere walls.

?

It was an image I returned to time and again in the weeks that followed the

retreat as Bob began to fragment into ever more random bits of being. Sally continued

to be his anchor but was at times fraught with despair and exhaustion. At times fearful,

agitated and confused, Bob could also become very angry, or simply seem to disappear

altogether. When he was hospitalized yet again in late December, it seemed logical to

use the time to figure out how to not bring him home this time, to find somewhere to

?place? him. People on all sides encouraged Sally to take this obvious next step. Sally

however, was not so sure. In fact, she was pretty much against it right along.

Over the next couple of weeks, as Sally agonized over what to do we shared

her uncertainty. We continued to meet as a sangha, to offer prayers and dedicate

merit. This was to prove especially crucial during this painful and tumultuous phase of Bob?s

dying. We Westerners are prone to getting into our heads, bypassing our hearts when

decisions have to be made until the balance is so skewed we abandon logic and swing

to the other side, often making rash choices based purely in emotion. Yet the teachings

remind us again and again to maintain mindfulness and discernment so as to balance

the logic of our heads with the loving kindness of our hearts.

?

This is why we take refuge in the sangha. It?s critical that we do this as

practitioners; otherwise confusion will reign, and lead inevitably to more uncertainty and

doubt. Sally needed support for her practice in order to keep her heart open and her

mind clear. The sangha needed to practice together to build confidence in our ability to

be present for Bob and Sally. Our busy lives somehow supported rather than thwarted

our endeavors, dishing up the sort of signs we needed that we were doing it, we were

being mindful, living our practice in the day-to-day, seeing how the dharma permeates

everything and everyone. Instead of falling further into doubt, one day in early January

Sally simply knew what she had to do. She took a leave of absence from work and

brought Bob home to die.

?

What we had talked about for months?the inevitability of Bob?s passing and our

sangha?s role in the process?was suddenly upon us. Sally prepared a room for Bob

based on what Rinpoche?s teachings said would support his passing. A fire burned

gently in the glass-fronted stove at the foot of the bed, candles and flowers adorned

the room and a small shrine upon which she placed photos of Bob?s teachers and other

personal dharma objects stood against the wall. Entering their home, one was met with

profound peace and a sense of everything being in right order and ready for what was

to come.

?

Jan. 16 ?

Sally (in an email to us):

? A soft snow is falling this morning; the wood stove is stoked, sending light and warmth into

the darkened room. I have again awakened with anxiety mixed with peace. I get up each

morning around five or six giving myself time to have coffee and some time alone. I try to sit on

the cushion each morning, either chanting the Heart Sutra or the Meditation on the

Compassionate One. Often my thoughts intrude, and getting down into that deeper state seems

impossible, I practice breathing in and out, feeling my heart pounding in my chest, I then wait to

hear sounds from Bob?s room. Yesterday he stood up by himself and opened the door, the day

before I had to wake him up around 8:30 and when I brought him out into the living room his

legs buckled underneath him. He is taking very little food at this point, preferring smoothies

and liquids; he seems to have lost all interest in solids. He spends a good portion of the day

sleeping. Yesterday and the day before he was only up about three hours each day. He is on very

little meds, whereas before we had him on 7.5 mg of an anti-psychotic twice a day, now I only

give him 3.25 once a day when he begins to get confused and seems a bit agitated. Most of the

?time when he is awake he seems to be very present responding to questions with a clear yes or

no, though he speaks only in a whisper and cannot really form more than a one or two word

sentence. Yesterday the visiting nurse came and has recommended that the

hospice nurse evaluate him. I struggle with my own thoughts of wanting this to be

over quickly, for both of our sakes. I have begun to put together a small team to help me and to

also research the legalities for my wishes to have the body home for 3 days after passing and I

have been assured by a funeral director that this is possible, I wish to make this journey as

seamless as possible and feel the prayers and support of all of you.

?

?Jan 16?

A sangha member replies:

?I am able to confirm what Sally feels certain of, that Bob is far more present than he has been

for months. It?s important to look with our hearts to see it?as Sally said in her note this morning,

Bob doesn?t speak above a whisper and spends a great deal of time whispering to himself and

gazing past us into the world that he can see and we cannot. It?s good to talk directly to him,

to not assume he doesn?t hear us?with our hearts we are able to sense what Bob is seeing and

hearing and it?s very peaceful where he is abiding. We can convey that energy to him when

we speak, or as we sit quietly with him we can send him love and clarity for the path. This is

what I wanted to tell you all, that Bob is in a state of grace right now that?s very good. His

eyes are clear and the lines in his face are gone. Although he is very thin, thinner than ever,

there?s ?more? of him than when I saw him last, he seems fuller, more put together. Sally spends

a lot of time chanting and praying with Bob and the energy in the house is sacred and lovely?as

Sally said, it would be a wonderful thing if this were to continue and Bob were able to die this

way without having the agitation and rage return that he was experiencing not long ago. We

have no way of knowing what will come, but can continue to pray and offer whatever we can to

the process; whether in person or from afar. Making Sally laugh felt really good, there needs to

be room for laughter and joy at such a time?remembering that it?s not irreverent to laugh in the

face of death.

?

Jan. 19?

Sally:

Dear all?on Wednesday afternoon Bob went to bed at 4:30 and the next day I was not able

to arouse him, he has been semi-comatose/sleeping since, and is now actively dying. Rinpoche

is in Bodhgaya and is offering prayers along with 3000 other monks and tulkus. I am piecing

together necessary details while supporting his process. I will keep you posted?

?

Jan. 20?

Sally:

?Konchog (Ven. Konchog Norbu) is here and is staying for the duration, he is in the room

with Bob chanting, we are so blessed, please come when you can, much love to all..Bob

still comfortable?hospice came this morning?

?

Jan. 20?

A sangha member:

This afternoon at Sally and Bob?s house, it was clear that Bob?s condition has declined

dramatically since I last saw him?The earth and water elements appear to have dissolved, Bob

continues his journey toward the bardos.

Konchog, who arrived last night, is staying at the house. I found him seated at Bob?s bedside,

reading aloud from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. During the afternoon, Bob and Sally?s

daughters and families arrived. While strong winds blow through the surrounding hills and

forest, the air within the house is still and rich with compassion, acceptance and strength. When

I told Bob that he was in Rinpoche?s prayers from Bhodgaya, his reaction was immediate and

unmistakable.

It?s clear that Bob is an extremely fortunate being. Sally?s immense courage, great heart, and

dedication to the dharma have allowed this gentle soul to leave this world with unmatched love

and support. We are privileged to be able to share in their journey.

?

Jan. 21

Konchog:

Bob passed so peacefully in the lion posture at 7:41pm EST, on this, the 10th day of Guru

Rinpoche. Just before he passed, his eyes, which had been closed for days, opened, directed

at the candle Rinpoche had told us to place in his view, set up as an offering to an image of

Amitabha in Dewachen. A light snow had just begun to fall. Sally and the two children they had

together were here, emotional, but holding it together pretty well. After his last breath, I lightly

tapped at his fontanel, said Amitabha?s name many times, and sang his mantra. I then read

the Heart Sutra and Karma Chagmed?s ?Prayer to be Reborn in Dewachen,? made incense and

light offerings with Atisha?s extensive light offering prayer, and all of us together did the simple

reading for the first three days of death. Now we are notifying various people while a lovely

recording of the Mani mantra plays for Bob.

?

Sally had already arranged for Bob?s body to remain undisturbed for 3 days

before being removed for cremation, so when he died the stove was shut down and the

window opened to invite the chill air. The vigil began. Over the next 3 days, Konchog

and Sally remained a steady presence while others from our sangha and from Sally

and Bob?s family came and went, taking turns snugged in a heavy coat or wrapped in

a blanket to sit with Bob?s body. The sacred space that Sally had prepared for Bob was

now fiercely cold and yet magically warm and inviting; lit with candles, fragrant with

incense. Bob?s body, too, was a comforting presence rather than something strange or

off-putting. Outside the open window, chimes hanging from the eaves lightly sounded in

the breeze. On Wednesday night, 2 days after his outer breath had ceased, our sangha

met at Sally and Bob?s house as a group and sat together with Bob?s body. Konchog led

us in the specific prayers that Rinpoche instructed us to use.

?

On Friday the body was removed for cremation and on Saturday, January 23,

a ceremony of remembrance was held for Bob at the Manchester Shambhala Center,

lovingly adorned for the occasion. The service was a simple, moving event filled with

prayers and ritual befitting the final days of Bob?s life. As with all aspects of Bob?s

passing, the day itself was auspicious, being the full moon Amitabha day. The room

was packed; some guests on cushions, others in chairs or standing, squeezed in

and familiar with one another if only for the hour. Many had never been to a Buddhist

ceremony of any kind; if they felt awkward upon arrival their awkwardness quickly gave

way to a sense of openness and peaceful acceptance. Toddlers wandered through

the crowd, laughing and chattering. Babies were held gently in loving arms. The sense

that we were all being held in fact, was much like the moment at the retreat when Bob

received his blessing from Rinpoche. When nothing separates who we are from what

we do, everything is sacred. Dharma readings and prayers, music, poetry and loving

words mingled as deeply as the styles and hearts of the people in attendance. People

remarked later on that it was like being suspended in time.

?

Bob and Sally?s daughter, Sam, read the words that Sally had written for the?ceremony:

?I would just like to share a little about these last weeks, which have been sad, but also peaceful

?and filled with love. When Bob was in the hospital I was told over and over that he needed to

?be in a nursing home. I got very, very close to putting him in one. I struggled daily with the

?decision but after visiting a nursing home, I realized I couldn?t do this, I couldn?t not bring

?Bob home. So on January third we brought him home, against doctors? advice. He was weak

?and disoriented and was brought home by ambulance. Bobby and I cuddled into bed with him;

?and we were smiling to each other, saying over and over ?you?re home.? Bob was so visibly

happy. Please understand that for someone with Alzheimer?s, it?s hard to show emotion. It?s

all blurred. He knew he was home, that is, he was safe, with family, with us. If he?d been in a

?nursing home, we would have lost him. We would have lost anything of him that we could pull

?back, that we could touch. It would?ve been gone.

?

In these last weeks he seemed to become more lucid, more present, even though

?his ability to communicate was diminished to only a word or two, he seemed softened.

?On Monday the 7th we laid in bed together and we talked; again, you have to understand

?he had lost the ability to speak in sentences of more than one or two words. We talked

?about Alzheimer?s and he said, ?it?s killing me?. I asked him whether he wanted to continue

?to fight this or whether he wanted to just be home, no more hospitals? He said home? I

?said to him a couple of times, ?do you understand what I am saying?? and he said ?yes.? I

?repeated, ?do you understand what I am saying?? and again he said ?yes.? ?later I helped

?him walk out into the living room and when we sat down Bob looked over at me and said, ?talk

?more?? I said to him, ?do you want to fight this, ?cause I will do anything in my power if that is

what you want,??. He nodded his head yes. He immediately looked alarmed and then said to me

?so very clearly ?other, other.? So I said, ?do you just want me to support you spiritually?? His

?face visibly relaxed and he said ?yes, yes??

?

Over the course of the next week Bob stopped eating solids. He slept more and more. On

Wednesday of last week he slipped into a semi-coma. We were told by hospice that he

?probably had less than a week. On Saturday night, Konchog came to be with us and began

?chanting and saying prayers throughout the day and late into the evening. On Monday night

?Bob peacefully died at home with Bobby, Sam, Konchog and I at his side. We continued to say

?prayers for him for the next three days after his passing.

?

This has been an incredible journey; one with acceptance, rawness, beauty, and love, I can?t

?put it all into words. When I was younger I loved Dylan Thomas?s poem ?Do Not Go Gentle into

?That Good Night?, but today?I stand here, older, and a little wiser. Death had always seemed

?a great mystery, full of fear and sadness. Bob has shown us grace, courage and a deep knowing.

?Together with my children and grandchildren we have cried, and laughed, and sobbed and

?prayed and we have learned that this great rite of passage holds unbridled compassion.?

?

After the service, Sally and her family threw a fine party. The Bob I knew was

fond of saying, ?I?m Irish.? He would attach this addendum to the increasingly abstract

things he came up with that nonetheless made perfect sense. We?d be pondering the

dharma and Bob would just come out with something so strangely yet perfectly put

together that we knew exactly what he meant but would be hard pressed to explain it. A

sort of Alzheimer?s koan, if you will. Then he?d get that twinkle in his eye and say, ?Hey,

I?m Irish.? So although he didn?t have the traditional Irish wake, Bob didn?t leave without

a celebration in his honor. Afterwards, we all went home, one by one, back to our lives,

leaving Sally to hers and yet not. The inevitable grace of the sangha remains because

that?s how it is, that?s how it works.

?

?and on January 28th, seven days after Bob?s passing, as I was sitting on the deck early

?one morning, after a deep snow, a small finch lit upon my shoulder. om mani padme hum.

UK: Ordination in Kenya of Minister in Anglican Church Plant in Sheffield

UK: Ordination in Kenya of Minister in Anglican Church Plant in Sheffield

Anglican Mainstream Press Release
February 18, 2013

In Sheffield, South Yorkshire, statistics show that only 3% of the population regularly attend church. Back in 2002 the leadership team at Christ Church Fulwood were invited by senior diocesan staff to investigate the possibility of church planting, with the aim of sharing the Gospel with people who had moved into the new residential developments in the city centre. Despite extensive discussions, diocesan support for this initiative was withdrawn, but with mission our priority Christ Church Central was "born" in October 2003 as "a church for people who don't go to church" outside the formal structures of the Church of England.

Nearly 10 years later both parent and daughter churches have continued to grow numerically and partnered one another in mission to the city. An expression of this partnership was the planting of Christ Church Walkley last year, with the initial members drawn from both congregations living in the area. Pete Jackson, who has been one of the associate ministers at Christ Church Central, is the founding minister.

Although recommended by the Reform Panel of Reference and trained at Oakhill Theological College, Pete had not been ordained since Christ Church Central was not part of Sheffield Diocese. Concern that his ministry and that of the new church should be appropriately recognised led us to consult the leadership of the Anglican Mission in England (AMiE), who subsequently wrote to the GAFCON Primates' Council with a request that they should facilitate Pete's ordination.

We are immensely grateful for the leadership of the Archbishop of Kenya, Eliud Wabukala, as chairman of the GAFCON Primates' Council, and to the Bishop of Kitui, Josephat Mule, who ordained Pete as a deacon in the Anglican Church of Kenya on Saturday 9th February. We see this event as the latest expression of Gospel partnership between the churches in Sheffield and Kenya. Tim Davies' father was Provost of Nairobi cathedral in the 1970s, Tim was born in Kenya and is himself an honorary canon of All Saints Cathedral Nairobi. Christ Church Central already supports mission partners in Nairobi.

We travelled to Kenya to support Pete and experienced a warm welcome and amazing hospitality from our brothers and sisters in Christ. Pete was welcomed by the other ordinands on a week long pre-ordination retreat in Kitui, led by the retired bishop of Kirinyaga, Daniel Ngoro, who also preached at the ordination service on the challenges of shepherding the flock from Ezekiel 34, John 10 and 1 Peter 5. The service in Kitui cathedral, conducted in three languages, was marked by praise and joy and a real sense of being part of the worldwide family of God. Nine men were ordained deacon, to serve local communities, in the Kenya Defence Force and further afield. Pete was invited to read the Epistle. Afterwards we were invited to share lunch in the bishop's office.

The following day, we had the privilege of joining the congregation of All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi for Morning Prayer, one of their numerous Sunday services which cater for a worshipping community of some 5,000 at this strategic city centre venue. There is clearly a heart for the city and the nation: prayers were offered for the presidential election on 4th March and the national anthem sung. The cathedral is hosting both presidential and vice-presidential live TV debates.

As we look forward to GAFCON 2 in Nairobi later this year, it is interesting to reflect on the global shift in Anglicanism, with the perception of doctrinal and moral incoherence of the Church in England compared with the courageous and publically acknowledged leadership of Archbishop Eliud. We caught a glimpse of the respect in which he is held, by "the man in the street", when we were walking back to our parked cars after supper at a local restaurant. On a warm quiet evening, two security guards were sitting down and as the archbishop walked by, informally dressed, one nudged the other and they stood and bowed their heads. CSU Rams men's basketball should be lock for NCAA Tournament

Less than three weeks remain in the regular season, time to play that game within the game: projecting your team's shot in the NCAA Tournament.

This state has a legitimate chance at putting three teams in the NCAAs for the first time. Please eliminate two factors when studying your team's prospects: One, the NCAA selection committee doesn't give one drop of Gatorade to a conference's ranking or how many teams come from each conference; two, the committee has eliminated teams' records in their last 12 games, since history shows they have no bearing on teams' performances in March.

Below is a look at the five in-state teams:

Colorado State: Record (21-4), RPI (13th), vs. Top 25 RPI (1-2), vs. Top 50 (3-3), vs. Bottom 150 (6-0), away record (5-4), strength of schedule (54th).

The Rams are in the best shape of them all. They already have impressive wins against UNLV and San Diego State and only one bad loss: Illinois-Chicago but it was on the road.

CSU can lock up a bid and relieve pressure in the Mountain West Tournament when it visits UNLV (No. 20 in RPI) on Wednesday and hosts No. 16 New Mexico (No. 3 in RPI) on Saturday.

Colorado: Record (17-8), RPI (21), vs. Top 25 (2-2), vs. Top 50 (3-3), vs. Bottom 150 (7-1), away record (4-6), SOS (9).

The Buffaloes have big-time wins over Arizona and CSU and Oregon on the road, and the selection committee loves a strong strength of schedule. Winning the Charleston Classic will pay big dividends in March. The only major bobble was the slip-up at Utah.

Their lone road games left is a trip to the Bay Area and they get Oregon again at home March 7. Holding their own should earn them an at-large bid regardless of how they do in the Pac-12 Tournament.

Air Force: Record (15-9), RPI (69), vs. Top 25 (1-6), vs. Top 50 (3-7), vs. Bottom 150 (8-0), away record (3-6), SOS (67).

Its lone impressive wins were over San

Diego State and UNLV so any hope for an at-large berth will come down to four days in March: at San Diego State on March 6 and New Mexico on March 9.

Denver: Record (17-8), RPI (92), vs. Top 25 (0-1), vs. Top 50 (0-2), vs. Bottom 150 (14-0), away record (7-6), SOS (190).

It's taking care of business but must win the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas. That means it must get past Louisiana Tech (23-3) which has won 15 in a row, including 68-60 over Denver, and finishes the regular season at Denver on March 9.

Northern Colorado: Record (9-15), RPI (282), vs. Top 25 (0-1), vs. Top 50 (0-2), vs. Bottom 150 (7-7), away record (2-11), SOS (217).

The Bears are tied for fifth in the Big Sky but no one's getting past Montana (19-5) or Weber State (19-5) in the Big Sky Tournament.

United Nations Reviewing Asteroid Impact Threat

The Russian fireball and the close flyby of the asteroid 2012 DA14 on Friday (Feb. 15) came at a moment in time when the United Nations is discussing international response to the near-Earth object impact concern.

Detailed discussions about the Russian meteor explosion and Earth's encounter with asteroid 2012 DA14 were high on the Feb. 15 agenda of Action Team-14 during the 50th session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), being held from Feb. 11 to 22 at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna.

The multi-year work of Action Team-14 (AT-14) is focused on pushing forward on an international response to the impact threat of asteroids and other near-Earth objects (NEOs).

Up for discussion at the Vienna gathering is the report: "Near-Earth Objects, 2011-2012, Recommendations of the Action Team on Near-Earth Objects for an International Response to the Near-Earth Object Impact Threat." [See video of the Russian meteor explosion]

Future threatening asteroids

"This event in Russia and the pass of the larger asteroid 2012 DA14 are good reminders that many thousands of objects like it pass near Earth daily," said Ray Williamson, a senior advisor to the Secure World Foundation and a participant in the Vienna gathering. ?

Secure World Foundation is a private operating foundation dedicated to the secure and sustainable use of space for the benefit of Earth and all its peoples.

Williamson said that some objects will be larger and cause considerable damage if they strike Earth. Furthermore, it is critical that efforts continue to identify and track asteroids in order to counter the largest ones before they do serious damage to population centers.

"Work is continuing within the United Nations on developing international responses to future threatening asteroids. Given the uncertainties concerning where such asteroids might strike Earth and how much damage they might do, international responses will be critical," Williamson told SPACE.com.

Also taking part in the UN NEO working group is space scientist, Detlef Koschny of the European Space Agency?s European Space Research and Technology Center (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

"The day before we thought it is great timing that 2012 DA14 flies by in the evening ? and were shocked when in the morning we learned about the Russia event," Koschny told SPACE.com. "What a coincidence. Was this a cosmic warning shot? It makes you think."

Timely warnings

For its part, the UN Action Team-14 has been deliberating over the years regarding the makeup and focus of an Information, Analysis and Warning Network (IAWN), designed to gather and analyze NEO data and provide timely warnings to national authorities should a potentially hazardous NEO threaten Earth.

That report and its findings are being shouldered by Sergio Camacho who chairs the Action Team on NEOs ? a group that was established in 2001.

But gluing together a planetary defense strategy is not easy and includes a number of components: from finding potentially hazardous objects, predicting their future locations, and providing warning about future impacts with the Earth.

Furthermore, such a strategy also involves missions to deflect impacting asteroids by changing their orbit, as well as disaster preparedness management and, in the event of a NEO strike, shaping a mitigation and recovery plan to counteract consequences.

The need for an IAWN had been identified in the September 2008 report: "Asteroid Threats: A Call for a Global Response," a document prepared by an expert panel convened by the Association of Space Explorers (ASE) to assist the work of AT-14.

Here is an excerpt of the 2008 asteroid threat report.

(AP) ? Wisconsin can be awfully good when it is making shots. Ohio State found that out Sunday.

The 20th-ranked Badgers shot 53 percent from the field, their best performance of the season, to rout No. 13 Ohio State 71-49.

"The guys got good looks, and they went down," Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said. "They didn't change anything. I'd like to say we did, that we found something."

It was a dramatic turnaround offensively for Wisconsin (18-8, 9-4 Big Ten) after Thursday, when the Badgers went scoreless over the final 5 minutes in regulation and then managed just four points in overtime while losing at Minnesota.

The 39 first-half points tied their best opening period in Big Ten play this season and were only 10 fewer than the Badgers scored for the entire game at Ohio State in a Jan. 29 loss.

Ohio State coach Thad Matta said it was just one of those games when the Badgers could do no wrong, perhaps best summed up in the second half when Wisconsin guard Traevon Jackson banked in an off-balance shot as the clock shot expired.

Even so, Matta said he was at a loss to explain how poorly Ohio State (18-7, 8-5) played on defense.

"We've seen the results if we're not going to play defensively. We're not a good basketball team," Matta said. "If we're going to rely on trying to outscore people, that's not going to happen."

The win kept Wisconsin tied with Michigan for third in the conference, two games behind leaders Indiana and Michigan State. Ohio State dropped into fifth place.

Wisconsin put Ohio State in a hole early and never let the Buckeyes climb out of it.

The Badgers took control with an 18-0 run in the first half that lasted more than 7 minutes and put them up 24-6. At one point in the run, Matta called timeout and said he lost it with his players, asking in bewilderment what was going on.

"The way we opened the game defensively, guys catch and shoot, we weren't even challenging shots," Matta said.

Things weren't much better on the offensive end. DeShaun Thomas led Ohio State with 18 points, though he needed 17 shots to do it and only got to the foul line once. Sam Thompson added 10 points but Aaron Craft was held to four on 2-of-9 shooting, and the team shot less than 38 percent from the field. That included 3 of 12 from 3-point range.

Ohio State had only six assists and trailed by 17 points at halftime. That was its largest deficit at the break since March 22, 2007, when the Buckeyes trailed Tennessee by the same margin but went on to win 85-84.

"This is on us," Craft said. "Coaches can't get us ready to play. The responsibility is on us as individual players. We've got to go and bring teammates with us. We can't play like this in February. This is beginning-of-the-year mistakes and mental errors."

Wisconsin, by comparison, was a model of efficiency on offense. The Badgers had 16 assists on 29 field goals and were 7 of 19 from 3-point range.

Ben Brust and Jared Berggren each scored 15 points to lead the Badgers, while Brust also had 11 rebounds. Sam Dekker came off the bench to score 13 for Wisconsin, and Jackson added 10.

Wisconsin built its first 20-point lead at 34-14 on Dekker's 3-pointer with less than 4 minutes to go in the first half and led by as many as 26 in the second half.

Berggren said the Badgers didn't do anything differently against the Buckeyes. He chalked up the offensive effort to a landslide effect ? when a couple of guys started making shots early, it just spread across the team. It also helped that the Badgers took advantage of Ohio State playing them tight on defense, making hard cuts to the rim and then kicking the ball out to open 3-point shooters.

"I think a big part is just knocking down shots," Berggren said. "I think we got a lot of the same looks, but everything seems better when the ball goes in."

The Justiciary

The Justiciary is basically a Gendarmerie, a Military Force charged with Police Duties. This force is made of heavenly warriors known as Angels. Their mission, to secure the borders to the Middle Realm. Ever since the small invasion of the beasts, caused a situational awareness of the potential fading borders. Mathias felt it best to have an elite force constantly watching this potential threat and always ready to act encase of future attacks.

The borders are separated into Twenty Six separate "Jurisdictions" and each heavily guarded by a legion of angels. Each legion is lead by a Justice-General or Justiciar as they are called. Each of the Jurisdictions are placed against the "bubble" that Acanthus created. As the Twenty Six runs all around the bubble covering it from all ends. The Jurisdictions don't particularly run very far within the world itself, as they concern themselves with what is outside of the wall, not within it.

The Justiciary's main base of operations is within the Halls of Justice located in the Upper Realm. Each Justiciar meets within the Tower's Chamber and supply each other with reports and intelligence. Not to mention a Map of the World placed upon the table, and acts like a projector, giving them a 3D and 2D views of the Middle Realm. Each Justiciar is a cut above the rest, they are Archangels and they are the most gifted and most powerfulest of their Angelic brethren. They are the first line of defense and if the Chaos Beasts push past them, then may their be mercy on the rest of the realm.

The First Archangel-Mathew

Image

Named after Mathias, Mathew is a devoted and sturdy leader of the Justiciary. Because of his leadership he is known as the Chief Justiciar. He is the sovereign Justice-General of Jurisdiction A (JDA for short).

The Second Archangel-Bartholomew

Image

He is the sometimes brash and impulsive younger brother of Mathew. Despite his hot-headedness he is a brave and loyal member of the Justiciary. He is the sovereign Justice-General of Jurisdiction B (JDB).

The Third Archangel-Annamaria

Image

The gentle and free-spirited Justice-General of Jurisdiction C (JDC). She is known to be always happy and never sad. She is best to person to find to lighten anyone's mood.

The Fourth Archangel-Dimitrion

Image

The mild-mannered and caring Justice-General of Jurisdiction D (JDD). He is perhaps one of the most nicest people you would ever meet. He enjoys nature and is respectful of any and all walks of life. He isn't one to resort to violence right away, even though his duty would tell him otherwise. He only seeks to create everlasting peace.

The Fifth Archangel-Natalia

Image

The timid and quiet Justice-General of Jurisdiction E (JDE). Natalia hardly speaks for fear of rejection of her words and ideas. She definitely doesn't appear to have the heart of a warrior, as she doesn't even seem to stand up for herself. Despite this she is a very kind and warm person, once you get to know her. She has the unique ability to conjure up lightning in battle.

Trintme, A Classier ?Bang With Friends,? Lets You Find Facebook Friends Who Want To Hang Out, Not Just Hook Up

TrintMeIf you kind of liked the idea behind viral sensation Bang With Friends, the controversial Facebook app that lets you privately nominate friends you want to hook up with, but balked at the idea of using an app that's all about the sex, then you might find newly launched Trintme to have some appeal.?The name, a combo of "true intentions," is not as clever, sadly - seriously, people, stop making up silly fake verbs! - but the app is similar in spirit. And a little classier, too.

Jaimie Etkin: 'Pretty Little Liars' Recap: Is Emily The New Spencer?

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 2, Episode 19 of ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars," titled "What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted."

pretty little liars recap

It's an odd day at Rosewood High. Not because one of the "Pretty Little Liars" has ditched school to play Hardy Girl, but a) because that "Pretty Little Liar" is former bookworm Spencer and b) because people (specifically the other three liars) are actually concerned about her absence. They're worried about Spencer and though Hanna thinks the best thing to do is leave Spencer alone (Chris Cocker-style), Aria says that's only landed her on "planet free fall." I imagine they play Tom Petty there all the time. Anyway, Emily says she's called TobAy but hasn't heard back -- probably because he's busy laundering a dozen black hoodies so he's ready for whatever Little Miss Riding Hood tells him to do next. If they want to know what happened, she surmises, they're going to have to get it out of Spencer. "Maybe I'll get some cupcakes and show up at her house later," Emily suggests, thinking Lucky Leo's could use some screen-time apparently.

Hanna and Aria agree and they say she needs to talk about the girl in the red jacket, who Hanna reveals she saw too, just before she went in for her interview with Corin, "the hot tested designer in Philly" a room full of white mannequins. But just before they can dissect, they see Spencer, wearing an awesome tiger/tribal cardigan that I covet talking to Andrew, who's been given "a dorky Rosewood haircut," my mom notes. And by talking, I mean ranting because she's been kicked off the academic decathlon team and she (obviously) points the finger at MonA.

"MonA, is there anything else that you want to take away from me," Spencer asks, getting up in the decathlon captain's face. Spence storms out of the courtyard, grabs her sunglasses from her locker and then realizes she can't see straight -- not only because she's losing it. Etched in the lenses is, "You rat out T, I take down 1 of your 3 -A." And with that, she's off. Screw the cupcakes, get this girl whatever she was kicking back in the Parentless Hastings Household the other night.

Creepy message aside, my mom can't get over Andrew's new look.

Mom: "Wait, so was that the same debate guy?"
Jaimie: "Yes! With the Rosewood haircut."
Mom: "What is wrong with their hairdresser? She hates the guys. She wants them all to look like losers."

Over at The Brew, Em is working for once and Hanna is busy "MapQuesting Amish Country" while Aria tries to figure out a way to get their "best friend ... chewing her elbows" a.k.a. Spencer back on the decathlon team. Aria tells Han that just because someone looks like their uncle it doesn't mean it's their dad. Wise words, Ms. Montgomery, but Caleb pretty much could not look less like Uncle Jamie. Their conversation get's interrupted when Aria's phone rings -- it's Ezra's mom. "Oh my god. Why is she calling me? We're not friends," Aria says in a hilarious panic. Turns out, Mrs. Fitz (who deserves another "f" name) just wants to know if Wes (a.k.a. Little Fitz) has been staying at Ezra's (a.k.a. Big Fitz) and like the title of this show suggests, she tells a pretty little lie. Speaking of lies, my mom insists "neither Fitz is big." It's all relative, Big Mama.

Suddenly, Cece shows up and sees Emily. "OMG. I never text you back," Cece says, using some awful grammar. She's worried about getting her store's website up when Emily asks if she knew Wilden, who they believe was in Cape May that summer. But Cece doesn't think that's proof enough since there were also about "four million other Delta Phis and they all wanted to rush Ali." She dismisses Em's theory and then calls her "hun" because she is the new Paige Michaelchuck.

Meanwhile, at the Parentless Hastings House, Spence is making what some (a.k.a. I) might call the most disgusting smoothie ever.

Jaimie: "Ewwwww, Spencer. I love a good pickle, but what the fuck."
Mom: "Vomit. I love a good health shake, but that is gross."

Then, there's a knock on the door. Saved by the Decathlete. She challenges him to a academic trivia match. Edit: a stripping academic trivia match in which one wrong answer means one article of clothing removed. "And the match isn't over til one of us is butt-naked," she says. "You're out of control," Andrew replies. "Not yet," she teases.

Andrew is down to his boxers and Spencer has just pulled a "Flashdance" move when Emily comes a-knockin', cupcakes in hand. When she sees what's going on, a tongue-tied Emily can only ask, "Should I've brought more cupcakes?" Easily one of my favorite moments of the season. He leaves, clothes in a heap in hand, and Emily basically asks Spencer what the #$@% that was about. She explains that she was trying to get Andrew to let her back on the decathlon team by showing him "my cupcakes," she explains.

Jaimie: "Why has Spencer had multiple scenes where she's being overtly sexually/acting like a prostitute?"?
Mom: "Spencer turned slut. Toby turned her into a slut."
Jaimie: "I think not. She's just running wild. Sidebar: I love that she's supposed to look like a mess and she's wearing what I wear to work everyday."

Emily takes the "cupcakes" comment as an opportunity to basically tears into Spencer: She wants to know what the hell happened with TobAy and why she's pushing all of them away. "You don't have a monopoly on pain," Em tells her. They don't want to watch her ... "Watch me what? Not be Spencer Hastings anymore? Because clearly, that's not working out for me," Spencer shouts before running up the stairs. "This is the new me!" I do miss the braids and riding boots.

Jaimie: "Emily is being a hard ass. A hard ass with cupcakes. Also, I'm really getting tired of them not knowing about TobAy."?
Lori: "Emily's hair looks so pretty."
Jaimie: "Yes, she IS pretty."
Lori: "Me too. But in the sunglasses, it said if she tells, A will get one of them. She is protecting them."
Jaimie: "Yes, but she didn't get that message in the last two episodes."
Lori: "Emily has turned into the old Spencer."
Jaimie: "And stripping is the new studying."

Over at Ezra's, Wes has made a mess of the place -- because, my mom says, "rich boy doesnt know how to clean up" -- and he needs to jet now that his mother knows he's there. (She barged in on him.) But he's banished from prep school and his brother's apartment so he's taking some cereal and going to stay a friend's house in Philly. Just as they discuss his plans, CeCe calls Aria and asks if she "still work[s] for that photographer." What photographer? That hasn't been a thing since October? Oh, but wait. Guess what? CeCe's in luck, because Aria is still gainfully employed by Laurel, that Annie Leibovitz wannabe we haven't seen since JULY. She's desperate for a photographer since the other guy she hired was a hack. Aria's up for the gig ... as long as she can bring an assistant, Wes.

Jaimie: "She's still working for a photographer?! WHAT!?!?"
Mom: "That's INSULTING!"

Apparently, Hanna had two hours after school to drive to Uncle Jamie's Woodwork-a-palooza. In a matter of a minute, Hanna pretty bluntly calls him out on being Caleb's dad, he confirms and then she asks him to try to make things right with his nephew son. He's game for coffee, but when she tells Caleb about it later that day, he is not exactly up for the caffeine-fueled idea, to say the least. "If it is true, that's even more reason for me not to meet him," Caleb says. She says she's doing this out of love and concern, but Caleb doesn't seem to care. "He had a lot of days where he could've made this choice, but he didn't," Caleb says sternly. "Instead, he let me grow up on my own. And that's where I am, I'm grown up and I'm on my own so I'm saying no."

Mom: "I don't get was Jamie with Caleb's aunt or mother. Or both."

Way to make this even creepier, Mom. Anyway, Emily has gone back to school because she just can't get away from her favorite space for learning. Just kidding. She goes to make things right with Jason, who's seemingly a full-fledged teacher now, but he's not buying Em's thought that Ali wasn't pregnant. Emily tells him about the photo and he remembers a collage that Ali gave Mr. DiLaurentis, which included a picture of Ali on a boat. Of course an older brother would remember the details of a collage his teenage sister made for their father. Anyway, he wonders, "Could be Walden's?" The possibility is strong enough that he decides to bring Em to his dad's new office where the collage probably is.

Over at the Parentless Hastings House, there's a Hastings besides Spencer! Melissa has inexplicably appeared to make Spencer some broccoli with lemon juice while their parents are in London. Suddenly, there's another inexplicable arrival: Wren is knocking at their back door. Both Hastings girls seemed shocked to see him. Melissa decides she wants no part in this and wants to enjoy her citrusy greens in peace. "I think I'll dine out back," she says, before seemingly walking into the bathroom. But back to Wren, who tells Spence, "I got a call from someone who is concerned about your state of mind." Was it Emily? Nope. Did Emily tell Hanna? Not to Wren's knowledge: It wasn't "any of them." Could really have been ... MonA? Spencer finally guesses and Wren can't deny it. She pretends to agree that it was "really thoughtful" of MonA to send him to check on her. But she doesn't want to talk -- she wants to get out of the PHH and suggests dinner and a movie. It's not a date though, Spencer clarifies. It's "a mental health outing" to a film festival by Bucknell, which is conveniently near Lewisburg, the same place that's hosting the academic decathlon. She goes upstairs to change as Wren smiles to himself about getting back in one Hasting's good graces.

At the Marin's, Hanna is about to head to her not-so-mentally-healthy outing with Jamie when Caleb walks in the door, hair tucked behind his ears and blue shirt buttoned all the way up to his neck.

Jaimie: "Caleb's hair is funny."
Mom: "His hair looks greasy. He's a sweetheart though. He got a haircut."
Jaimie: "It's like alternative meets classy."??
Mom: "it's like he wants it to still be long in the back, but boy cut in the front."
Jaimie: "That's called a mullet!"
Mom: "Oh nooo! Not on Caleb."

"I don't know if I'm going to be able to deal with this," Caleb tells Hanna, taking her hand, "but I know it's going to be a lot easier if you're with me." And off the go for the most awkward date I can imagine. Turns out, Caleb, Hanna and Jamie's evening is not so awkward because Jamie hasn't even showed. Hanna suggests they wait five more minutes because she thinks "he's not the same person." "Really?" Caleb replies. "Well, you can tell that to the empty chair." They try to pass the time with cake and just as they decide to get it to go, Jamie shows up. He jokes about the "used cake," prompted Hanna to say, "I would get you another piece, but if I stand up again, I'm going to have to pee and I would rather do that in my pants than leave you two alone."

Mom: "Uncle Jamie and Caleb don't even look related."
Jaimie: "He's really bothering me."
Mom: "Me too."
Jaime: "He's like, 'I suck' and then says, 'But please stay and listen to me.'"
Mom: "Hahaha. Hanna isn't even wearing any pants."

Over at CeCe's store, there's red win flowing in paper cups like it's water. CeCe sends Wes downstairs for some props.

Mom: "Little Fitz sounds like he has a British accent he's trying to hide."
Jaimie: "Because he does! What kind of 'Wizards of Waverly Place' fan are you?!"

CeCe takes the opportunity to ask Aria, "Is Big Brother as yummy as Little Brother? Ugh, lucky girl. You got two-for-one." I did not miss CeCe. Aria tells her it's not like that and is ready to put her photography skills to the test on baby Budda's with jeweled necklaces. CeCe steps out to get dinner and Wes and Aria continue working. She asks for more overhead lights and when he brings over a large lamp, he knocks wine all over the store's white shag carpet, a very color flooring for a store that people stomp around in all day.

Mom: "Wayyyyyy to go, Lil Fitz."

When Wes jokes about sleeping on the carpet to hide the stain instead of in his car, Aria realizes that he doesn't have a friend in Philly who doesn't eat breakfast to stay with. "Stay at my place," she suggests, but before they can get into it, CeCe calls. She says she had a glass or two of wine while picking up their food from the bar and when she came back, her car had been towed. Silly me, I actually thought she was going to get penalized for drinking and driving. Anyway, CeCe is sitting in her car the entire time, so clearly she's lying, but why?

Meanwhile, Jason and Emily arrive at his house to get the keys to Mr. DiLaurentis' office, which his son would obviously have a copy of. As they walk up to the deck, they see his pork covered in bottles of whiskey and it's clear someone is watching them dumfoundedly stare at the display. While Jason's pouring out bottles of liquor as any normal twentysomething would do, Emily gets a text: "Better tell him to save a couple. He might need it. -A"

When they get to Mr. DiLaurentis' office, they're surrounded by boxes and Emily can't seem to get the apparently threatening whiskey exhibition out of her head. She asks Jason who would do such a thing and immediately, he says, "Honestly, Alison. But I don't think she's visiting us from beyond the grave."

Mom: "What does Jason's dad do?"
Jaimie: "Abandon his family. Wait ... is Jason fake being nice to MonA or is he lying to Emily?"
Mom: "I think he's being fake-nice to MonA."
Jaimie: "I don't know about that."

Conveniently enough, third box is the charm and Em finds the highly-sought-after collage. Jason explains that the art project was an "apology" from Ali (ever the modest one) to her dad. Jason immediately locates the picture and they see there's a hand on Ali's shoulder so they peel it back and look who it is: Wilden. What luck that the collage was not only so easily discovered, but that the pictures weren't even glued down. Oh, and there's another side of the photo being hidden and on the other side of Ali is none other than CeCe. CeCe the girl who didn't remember Wilden when Em asked her about him just hours ago.

Suddenly, memories start flooding back to Jason. "Maybe she planned on meeting up with him that night," he tells Emily. "The last night my sister was alive." Suddenly, we flash back to the night we've seen both fictional and nonfictional snippets of for weeks and this time Jason is stumbling out of the DiLaurentis house. He goes to grab some water from the hose and sees Ali talking to Melissa, who we recently discovered was there that night thanks to Byron's flashback. (This may be the only thing I will ever thank Byron for.) Anyway, Jason calls out to Ali and when she finally turns around, it's CeCe talking to Melissa in that same yellow ruffled tank top. When Jason takes a second look, no one's there and then he passes out on a lawn chair.

Why didn't he ever tell the police about this, Emily wonders. He didn't want to be a suspect.

Meanwhile, Spencer and Wren finally arrive Lewisburg. She asks him to get a table at the inn-type establishment they've stepped into while she barges in on Team Rosewood's academic decathlon practice. After telling Andrew and the team's advisor off, she approaches MonA. "I really wanna thank you for sending the good doctor to my rescue," Spencer says sassily. It's almost scary what a great batshit bitch she's become. She also tells MonA he gave her a case study about a deeply disturbed teenager, who Wren refers to as M. "We both know that this sociopath goes by other initials as well," she says in MonA's face and threatens to upload the entire case study to the internet with MonA's photo attached.

"And who's looking cray-cray now, Spencer. Have you completely lost it? Is that was TobAy left you?" MonA says calmly. "Do you still have any friends, Spencer?"

And with that, Spencer goes full "Mean Girls" animal world on her, jumping on our teenage blackmailer and screamingly wildly. And as if we couldn't see and/or hear it on own own, one of ABC Family's uber-ridiculous Twitter prompts comes up on the screen: #SpencerSnapped. Wren pulls Spence off of MonA and the decathloners come to her rescue. "It's OK. It's fine. She just snapped. I'm OK," she says. Snapped. We get it. Thanks.

Mom: "Spencer was back being very all, 'I'll outsmart Mona,' and then she attacked her?? I don't like that they are making Spencer seem like she is unraveling."
Jaimie: "She IS unraveling. She's unraveled. She snapped! Did you not see?!"
Mom: "I want to smack Mona. She is so irritating. She should get with Byron -- he's irritating too. She is hard to take."
Jaimie: "I feel like she's so together now. It's unrealistic. Unless she was faking crazy to get into Radley for some reason?"
Mom: "She is on a lot of meds for crazy ppl."
Jaimie: "True, but still."
Mom: "It's not believable."

After the father-son-girlfriend coffee date proves successful, Hanna suggests to Ashley that Pastor Ted hire her potential father-in-law to fix the bell tower at the church. Is that still broken from when Ian died? How does anyone in Rosewood know what time it is? Anyway, apparently Pastor Ted (who we haven't seen since Halloween) moves fast because he and Jamie meet that night while Hanna and Caleb are waiting in the pews. Caleb's worried about Jamie's recommendations since he "got paid for his last job in weed." Eventually, he admits that he and Jamie agree that Hanna did the right. "He thinks I'm the luckiest person ever," Caleb tells her, leading to a sweet kiss.

Ashley comes out in her blue chiffon top, perfect for wintertime, and tells them that Jamie got the job. Time for pizza and beer!

Jaimie: "PIZZA & BEER?!"
Mom: "It sounds like Ashley wants a foursome."

Ew. Anyway, Hanna, feeling moved by the non-Christmas miracle that she witness that night, puts a $5 bill marked with some dice in the donation box. The camera stays on the etchings for so long, it's clear we'll be seeing them later.

Mom: "Question: What were Jamie and Pastor actually doing together? Paper work? Is Jamie adopting his own son?"
Jaimie: "He's just fixing the bell tower. I think you're looking too much into this slash giving this show too much credit."
Mom: "Ooooh ... He's the hunchback of Notre Dame in disguise."

Meanwhile, Jason and Emily head out of Mr. DiLaurentis' office, mission completed. But, not quite. The elevator gets stuck. I will never trust you, Jason. Ever.

Over in an equalled cramped space, Wren and Spencer are on their way home when Melissa calls. Wren answers and covers for Spencer and her brawl, saying she has a "gyppy tummy" (translation: "food poisoning") from their meal. What a guy. Another one I will never trust.

Mom: "Gyppy tummy?"
Jaimie: "I don't know. He's British. Whatever -- that's the least of my problems with this episode."
Mom: "I don't trust any guys on this show. I think Marlene King hates men."

Apparently, Byron's not home (or he is and decided to return to his old ways and stopped being a parent) so Aria is getting Wes ready for bed. They bond over books -- he can't fall asleep unless he reads -- and the literary chemistry is so strong that they're moved them to kiss. How very "Vampire Diaries," "Pretty Little Liars." Not even two seconds later, Aria says, "We can't do this." "No, no we can't," Wes replies. They say their goodnights and this time, I gotta agree with the hashtags prompt: #TheWrongFitz is right.

Mom: "OHHH. Smack him! Soooooo inappropriate!"
Jaimie: "That was."
Mom: "He deserved a slap."
Jaimie: "I don't even get romantic vibes between them."

Back in the elevator -- a far cry from other legendary on-screen elevator disasters like Zach Morris delivering Mr. Belding's wife's baby on "Saved By The Bell" or the one that led Joe Fox to see the light and dump Patricia in "You've Got Mail" -- Emily is trying to escape through a small opening and eventually, she lands safely on the ground. She says she'll hold the door open for Jason to escape, but doesn't seem to try very hard to hand over the reins. Suddenly, the doors shut. The elevator and Jason plummet to what should be death and I say "should" due to my detesting Jason and the physics of situation.

Mom: "It looked like he wasn't even trying to get out."
Jaimie: "It seemed like he purposefully shut the doors."
Mom: "I know. I agree."
Jaimie: "But it could just be because he's a bad actor."
Mom: "Yes. A bad actor with bad hair and his lips are so pale."

In a far happier place, the Marins and the Calebs order pizza and when the deliver man arrives, Jamie offers to pay. As he pulls out his cash, Hanna notices a $5 bill with dice doodled on it. Coincidence? She thinks not.

But no time to lament over stealing money from churches -- Hanna, Aria and Spencer get an "S.O.S." text from Emily, who's standing beside Jason's hospital bed as he struggles to drink some water in his brand-new neck brace. Jason says she was right about the NAT club -- someone wants him gone. And not only that, but the photo evidence with Wilden, Ali and CeCe was lost in the accident. A 4 x 6 shiny piece of paper didn't survive a multiple-story elevator crash? I'm shocked. She closes the curtain and goes to get him more water when she sees Hanna, Aria and soon, Spencer.

Magically, the other three liars knew that "S.O.S." meant Jason fell down an elevator shaft and we're at the hospital so they show up. Spencer, who's now estranged from her friends, seems the most considered and panicked, which isn't surprising considering Jason is her half-brother. She apologizes and so does Emily, but the kiss-and-make-up moment is interrupted when a nurse says, "Excuse me. Where's your friend?" They rush into his room and the only thing on the bed is wires and a neck brace. Jason's gone, but not in the way he should have been after an elevator accident.

Mom: "Oh come on. This is so stupid!"
Jaimie: "Sooooooo stupid."
Mom: "I'm starting to feel stupid for watching. That whole Jason thing was sooo lame."

As the credits roll, we see one pair of black gloves putting each of the girl's heads on bottles of whiskey. Then, another pair of gloves joins in to set up a game of spin the bottle. It lands on Spencer, they drink her whiskey (which sounds perverted) and then, they cheers. End scene. Is it supposed to be shocking that two members of the "A" Team were "seen" at once? Because we already know TobAy and MonA are members. If we saw five sets of gloves, that would have been something. But this?

Jaimie: "I feel like they tried to make it seem like it was this big surprise that there were two hoodies playing spin the bottle."
Mom: "Ummmm duh! Who could they be? I almost don't care."
Jaimie: "I know. This is frustrating me."
Mom: "So it seems like it was Mona and Toby bc we know they are A's. But now Melissa and Wren are in the picture and CeCe is weird as shit and the whole Jason thing is just ridiculous and insulting, not suspenseful at all. This better start to get better. I don't like to played with two weeks in a row."

Also, despite the shower scene hinted in the promo for next week's "Pretty Little Liars," I'm not too worried about Spencer being targeted. After all, last week, we saw Hanna's bobble head get torched and all things considered, I think Hanna had a pretty good week. Speaking of the promo, I'm looking forward to Spencer finally telling the other liars about TobAy. After all, after the etching in her sunglasses, we really haven't be given a reason for her to conceal that fact.

Quotes of the Night
"I think we'd know if Spencer was here. People would be running for cover." -Hanna

"I'm pretty sure when you and Caleb broke all, you locked yourself in your bedroom for two weeks and all you ate was eskimo pies." -Aria
"They were Skinny Cows and it was four days." -Hanna

"Give her a riddle. She needs to get that part of her brain working again." -Aria

"Why are you MapQuesting Amish Country?" -Aria

"Our best friend is at home chewing her elbows and you're horse shopping?" -Aria

"Busy?" -Andrew
"Yeah. I was just about to put out a welcome mat that says, 'Go Away!'" -Spencer

"Hanna. You didn't drive two hours for a show fly pie." -Jamie

"Holy crap. It's Emily Fields." -Andrew
"Relax. You're not her type." -Spencer

"It's just a cup of coffee. You can throw it on him if you want." -Hanna

"Dammit. I was really hoping for some shock therapy, but maybe you could just wire me to a toaster and press 'Top Brown Only.'" -Spencer

"Amen. I see the spirit has moved out. How would you guys like to take this to a more secular setting?" -Ashley

Also, thanks to one reader, Tanja, who noted that Spencer etched TobAy's name in the mausoleum to signify that he's dead to her in last week's episode. I buy it. New dark and twisted Spencer would.

"Pretty Little Liars" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC Family.
