Stages of Car Body Repairs

Stage 1 (Paint Checking)

Once the damaged area has been primed and
smoothed off ready to spray it is then necessary to scotch up all the areas that you will be applying paint to in order to give the paint something to key onto, otherwise the paint will just peel off. All dust and debris is then removed from the re-spray able area in order to allow the next stage to commence.
Stage 3 (Paint)
The paint is then made up and strained into the air gunready to be applied. The correct air pressure and gun specs are adjusted accordingly depending upon the paints viscosity. Heaters are used to heat up the repairable area while the paint is applied in coats allowing time between coats for the paint to rest. Once the paint has been applied and all areas are
covered the next stage of the bumper scuff repair can begin.
Stage 4 (Lacquer)
Similar to the paint application the lacquer is strained into the air gun and gun specs and air pressure adjusted. It can take up to 3 coats of lacquer till the desired finish is obtained?allowing flash off periods between coats. Once the lacquer is fully applied the car body repair is then placed into an oven for up to six hours to fully cure.
Stage 5 (Finishing)
Once the sections have been fully cured the process of finishing the repair can begin. This involves the use of differing compounds, polishes and machineing polishing to buff up the repair till its back to show room condition.
